World Restoration Committee Information & Discussion

This is a post for committee members to discuss any and all committee-related matters and projects.

What is the World Restoration Committee?

The World Restoration Committee is a group dedicated to clearing the lower world of the decay of negativity and apathy, bridging Arehtei-related concerns to governments and the public, and improving Otherworlder-native relations. It was an idea raised by Daimonia during the aftermath of Elios’s imbalance wrecking havoc and agreed upon by the other Arehtei given the current situation. Arehtei representatives had come and gone, and were sorely missed by their respective Arehtei, and to alleviate this issue, Daimonia thought, "why not just share the fun everyone"?

With all the Arehtei’s approval on hand, this committee was formed. Due to the nature of the committee, it soon moved past the original proposal to include larger concerns about the world and how it could be helped.

What kind of activities do they partake in?

The Committee holds bi-to-trimonthly meetings to touch base on different important matters, including but not limited to sharing information and discussing upcoming adventures. Note that these meetings are open to all, and not just members of the committee. Think of them as something like town hall meetings or open forums with committee members usually leading the discussions!

What are the requirements for joining up?

Any interested parties must have been residing in Empatheias for at least one month. Signing up is handwaved, although we do suggest that you track this post for potential discussions! There are no other set requirements for being a part of the committee, though we do ask that your character actively participates in the meetings or visibly attempts to organize restoration efforts if your character joins.

What makes a member of the committee different from someone who is a non-member but participates in meetings?

A member of the committee would be in a good position to organize and lead efforts in matters regarding the Arehtei and the lower world. As this is a government position, they will have easier access to funding, and with (hopefully) less red tape to weave through in terms of getting stuff done.

Selenium and Piphron

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2017-11-28 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey everyone!

So last Selenium Obi-Wan had a talk with Piphron here about his people and how they celebrated Selenium. Obi-Wan thought it would be nice to incorporate some of the traditions that Piphron's people did into the next Selenium to honor the old crab and his people.

As a side event for the upcoming Selenium, Obi-Wan would like to propose something similar to what Piphron shared with him. He will bring it up ICly at the December meeting if there is one. I've asked the mods and they are okay with this happening! So I would like to see if anyone has any input on this idea? Obi-Wan will talk with the Theasthai Selenium organizers if this is approved by the committee.

Obviously it wouldn't be possible for them to make a trip up Piphron's mountain for this. But instead perhaps make a short trek outside the city where a bonfire can be made. Those participating bringing torches to add to the fire as they arrive and siting around it to remember those who had passed and the bonds they had with those people. And to show trust in each other to carry them through their grief by sharing their stories. To encourage each other and to exercise faith for the hope of happier days ahead.

That's the sort of thing that Obi-Wan would suggest, though if anyone has any other ideas feel free to mention them!

Please let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

Might help if I commented with the actual committee member's account, wouldn't it?

Ooh, that sounds like a pretty cool idea! ICly, Allura will... haha, either be absent from the meeting or just barely participating (yay, castmate drama), but OOCly I think it's worth giving a shot!

Not much to add, but the idea is nice, yes. Something nice for the big, grumpy crab.

And Anakin has no objections, especially if no weird ghosts are involved like last Selenium.

Emergency Radio Research

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-12-08 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, we've got a new radio tower! XD So before the news that Briarlan was going to be building one with techmotion, Allura, Hinata, and Matt Holt had been brainstorming and experimenting on reverse engineering short-wave radio without techmotion. Specifically, Allura's hoping to expand that to long-distance emergency radio to overcome the limited range of crystal telepathy, such as inter-settlement broadcasts in case of an emergency where access to teleportation is cut off (Arehtei rampage, haywire weather, etc.), and possibly even a field radio set so surface expedition teams can call Verens for status updates or back-up if things go south.

So far the research has been going well and will do even better with the tower to examine. Still, with techmotion being so draining, the group will obviously be keeping an eye on the new tower's operations and efficiency before they move too far forward, and also probably still investigate non-techmotion power sources. This is mostly just to put those ideas on the table.

And that's more or less all the IC information the group will be bringing to the meeting this month. Any questions or offers to help would be great! Just keep in mind that we're going to be keeping this mostly handwaved until January due to holiday craziness.

Radio! \o/

The non-techmotion radio for emergencies sounds like a very good and practical idea! Obi-Wan approves! That definitely could be useful for surface expeditions so that teams are not cut off completely.

Sounds great!

Ritual Takeover, IC and OOC

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-12-15 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
As many know, Reena and Red were responsible for organizing and tabulating most of the balancing rituals this year, and their work played a significant role in helping the Arehtei come back into balance or, in the case of the battle against Elios, giving them more power period. While both Red and Reena have left the game, and while we had a MUCH greater contribution from the game playerbase last month, it'd probably be a good idea to preserve the rituals, especially with Aiada JUST starting to come down from severe over-appreciation, Thras is starting to dip a bit too far into fear, and Elios is starting to get a bit of a love buzz again.

SO, my IC and OOC question for the committee is a poll about whether or not rituals should be continued in Red and Reena's absence? If yes, who would be up to the task? Should we find out and use Reena's old format for entering them into the emotion tracker, or come up with a new one?

Obviously we don't need to decide this right away with the holidays picking up speed, but it's something to think about during January at least. Thank you guys, and happy holidays!

Oddly enough I was JUST thinking about this!

I definitely think the rituals should continue. And since Obi-Wan has a vested interest in them, seeing as the generators were supposed to be used in these, he would volunteer to keep them going.

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-12-15 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, yeah, just kinda woke up this morning and realized "OH YEAH, WHO'S GONNA HANDLE THESE?!" But yay, thanks, DF! Are you gonna be okay with all the ET entries for them too?
hadthehighground: (Thinking it over)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2017-12-15 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
WELL THATS THE THING. I’m not sure how all that works! But I think I could do it if someone tells me how or I can figure it out somehow?
heartofalioness: (Hm...)

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-12-15 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
YEAH SAME. I know Reena had a system for calculating how many points a ritual meant, and aligned and unaligned people gave different amounts of points, but I'm not sure what the actual values were. I think asking her for the info might be easier than trying to look through the Emotion Tracker archives and ritual sign-ups and trying to math it out.
hadthehighground: (Thinking it over)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2017-12-15 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I don’t exactly have an easy way to contact her but maybe the mods could make a suggestion.
heartofalioness: (I Pray for Your Safe Return)

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-12-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I could at least send her a private message, if nothing else. If that doesn't work, we can probably either analyze the archives or try to come up with our own system.
hadthehighground: (goodbye)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2017-12-16 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
That works. Either way we should be able to figure something out.
heartofalioness: (Hm...)

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-12-22 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no response from Reena after a week.

Looked over September and October, and actually looks like the formula for the ritual points is pretty simple: 4 points for each ritual day attended by an unaligned character, and 5 points if the character was aligned. And if someone's total went over 10 Reena would split that person's points into multiple submissions.

Other than that, it's just a matter of saying "hey, there'll be rituals on such and such dates, have your character sign up" and then ICly the rituals are handwaved.

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2017-12-22 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah okay! That sounds simple enough. :|a

I had also PMed the mods asking about the rituals too. But that sounds good to me!

Welcome Center Info, IC and OOC

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2018-01-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
As the mods have stated here, with Shun gone we could use some help Welcome Center pamphlets. During the October meeting, Emizel brought up the topic and volunteered to take on the task, and while that's still going on ICly, OOCly his mun Grif has been super busy the last month or so and is asking for help with the actual updating and editing. If you'd like to give Grif a hand, they can be reached at [plurk.com profile] GrifStar or by PMing [personal profile] trademark_skull for coordinating! Thanks a ton~!

Perhaps now would be a good time for an emergency meeting.... ??? Especially since we haven’t had one in awhile.

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2018-09-02 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe just after intros would be best timing-wise since there's a bit of a gap between intros and either the plot event or the timed tasks/extra calendar bits. Will say that just came back from hiatus and already have a full list of things for Allura to do for the month already, so I'll try to pencil it in, but not sure if I'll be able to be as present as usual.
