What is an Arehtei Committee?

The Arehtei Committee is a group dedicated to bridging Arehtei-related concerns to all parties concerned, may it be the government or the public in general. It was an idea raised by Daimonia during the aftermath of Elios’s imbalance wrecking havoc and agreed upon by the other Arehtei given the current situation. Basically, representatives have come and gone as of late and are sorely missed by their respective Arehtei (yes, this includes Sosyne), and to alleviate this issue of a kind, Daimonia thought, "why not just share the fun everyone"?

And with all the Arehtei’s approval on hand, this committee was formed.

What kind of activities do they partake in?

The Arehtei Committee holds bimonthly meetings to touch base on different Arehtei-related matters, including but not limited to sharing information and discussing upcoming adventures. Note that these meetings are open to all, and not just members of the committee. Think of them as something like town hall meetings or open forums with committee members usually leading the discussions!

What are the requirements for joining up?

Any interested parties must have been residing in Empatheias for at least one month. Afterwards, all they have to do is fill-out the form and comment to the subthread under the monthly mod post and meet the bimonthly AC requirement. Sign-ups will be on a bimonthly basis and will only be open during months where there is a committee meeting going on. The AC check will be during the following month.

Due to the plot-relevant nature of this position, each player is limited to one character in the committee. This may be adjusted in the future.

What does my character have to do in order to remain in the committee?

There will be bimonthly AC checks, which can be fulfilled by doing one of the following:
  • Linking threads (maximum of two) that total at least five comments in the Arehtei Committee meeting log
  • Linking a thread outside the log which discusses or implements committee-related activities (to be judged on a case-to-case basis). Needs to have at least five comments.
Threads used for committee AC can still be used to meet the monthly AC requirement. This means when submitting proofs for AC, you can submit a thread from the mingling log and then any other thread or entry made elsewhere in-game for proof.

Why is there an AC check?

The checks are there to ensure and promote activity, as the intention of this group is to encourage proactive players or those interested in moving the plot along to coordinate and help each other out in terms of accomplishing goals related to that.

What makes a member of the committee different from someone who is a non-member but participates in meetings?

A member of the committee would be in a good position to organize and lead efforts pertaining to the Arehtei. As this is a government position, they will have easier access to funding, as with (hopefully) less red tape to weave through in terms of getting stuff done.

I would like to leave some feedback on the Arehtei committee's AC requirement! Or rather, talk about it? Idk.

As it currently is, I don't really see what good the activity check is, even with the explanation provided in the post, especially when you've had to allow people 2 threads to total 5 comments just to help pass it. I can see it being helpful in pushing people to do things if they may need it, but on the other hand, all that the committee seems to be is a log put up every two months without anything else than what players can contribute to it. Which is fine idea on its own, and even letting this be advertised as a log where people can bring up other game-related subjects (as sorta happened in the last meeting) seems like a good way of using it to me; it reminds me of the Town Meeting log that took place back in 2015, I believe, and I'm totally for people talking about plot.

But when that seems to be the only thing that comes from having the committee, I don't really feel like my character gets anything out of being a committee member. As it is, it feels like I have to make sure I have AC ready just so Red can call himself a committee member, and that's that.

I think my point is, is there plan to add more to the committee at a later point? Any benefits to characters who show themselves as an active committee member? Anything that committee members may have access to, or gain? Because I feel that if the committee meetings are going to continue to just be a log that is pushed by what the players contribute to it than anything the mods add to it or provide to members of the committee, that this could just be something that exists without the AC, especially if the AC is going to be that low.

Just to note, I understand the committee is more than the log, and that it is about players and their characters going out and achieving more, and the log is just a place to share ideas, findings, etc. But just that as it is now, the AC seems more like a bother than anything else. And I do hope that more can be added or worked into how the committee operates and what it can provide for players and being a way to push plot!

---

ALSO, just one more thing...! (Sorry I do this a lot but just because I care, I swear!!)

So I say the above but it's more just something I want to discuss related to the Arehtei and dealing with them as a player, or rather- hm, the difficult spot that I feel exists in caring about the Arehtei but also... trying not to actively bug their players every other month while also not losing touch with an Arehtei.

Characters are obviously going to be very human (or very not if they aren't, but anyway) and not always be able to tell things, and the Arehtei themselves are not always going to be able to be honest and know or say if something is wrong with them when something is wrong. But I've felt that there probably isn't always a lot communicated when characters might be able to notice something is up. I think the biggest example of this is with the Elios plot: There were some vague signs with hot weather in winter, and I did notice later on that Elios had a thread with a PC where he acted very childish. But this was also with a PC who I think didn't really know Elios that well, and I don't blame them for not speaking about it to the game.

But Elios's last rep was also a rather active individual, and I'm not speaking on their behalf, but I think that with how involved they tried to be, that she may have noticed something sooner than the Flower Festival, if not for very, very understandable reasons: The fact that Laena wasn't around to play Elios.

I don't blame Laena for being around one bit, but I know that personally, I've not had threads with Arehtei because I know their players are busy, and that other players have done the same. And this is always going to be a thing, where a player of an Arehtei may not be able to commit to threading often! There is also the fact that as a player, you may not want to thread with an NPC every single month about how they're doing.

The reason I bring this up is because I'm wondering if there might be a way that can be brainstormed for the Arehtei not to disappear so much in the background, I guess? Or, again, obviously this may happen (as is Piphron's plan--), but if there's some way to have updates now and then, maybe, on the Arehtei, or for some kind of nudge into taking an interest in an Arehtei that won't always dump threads onto the players? Tidbits like that exist for Aiada in the current committee log would be nice, or even if there's anything worth mentioning in mod posts.

I can understand this can be tricky to figure out though, as this entire comment may be! I just feel that while the Arehtei and their wellbeing is very important still in the game, there hasn't really been much opportunity to care about them, or to want to be engaged with them. Even with concerns about Aiada have been more due to me as a player being aware of the ET and that the Calinede Temple shrines are a thing than anything that's come up ICly.

Obviously this is nothing I expect everyone to have an answer for right away, esp when you're trying to juggle the game as it is now and how much work it is! But just things that I hope might be thought about, if they aren't already.

Community Garden Proposal

[personal profile] heartofalioness 2017-10-06 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Quite a few otherworlders have been wondering about flowers and gardening space lately, especially over the networks. Maybe a community garden would be nice, possibly with a greenhouse and/or other emotional protections in case something like Elios' lovesickness or the observatory crystal's theft mess with the weather again. It could also be a good source of emergency food or herbal medicine for crises like that too. And there could be a little space for people to practice floral dunamis, maybe even cultivate and show off plants that are unique to their worlds.

Ah, I see... Hmmm, between this and the response I got on the announcement question (thanks again, BTW), I'll see if I can coordinate a bit with Dezel's mun, either backdated talking about this or inviting someone to the committee meeting. If not, then I'd have to double check if or how/why Allura would get the idea ICly.

Anyway, this is all really helpful, so grazie, guys!

Okay, so I don't know if these go here or in the new committee post? Since this is more "hey mods" than "hey committee", as a few of these have already been addressed in the meetings (except for the very first) and more what I'd like to let you guys know about!

- Cleaning up Philea, the capital city in Elios's domain; (burying or whatever Elios wants done to the bodies, checking out the city itself)

The ice has cleaned up in the area, but I'm not sure what this means for the city itself and in particular, the actual bodies in the location that had been frozen to the walls. This is one that would have been brought up to Elios first, since, you know, would be good to know how he might like his old people to be treated and if he's ready to deal with that.

Considering what can be found in the city itself, it would be useful to take a return trip sometime and to not leave it forgotten.

- Planting crystal flowers in domains associated with the Arehtei to better have a read on their emotions;

This would just be something to do on the side, possibly with any restoration attempts in different parts of the world that has been discussed by another (who I will leave that to bring up). This is honestly something that can just be done alongside that, and only really going to add to a "hey so now we kinda have a better idea of what the Arehtei are receiving each month", as nothing like that ICly exists.

The seeds of the crystal flowers are available, it's just a case of planting them.

- Reviving/saving old plants

This was a project being worked on by Komaeda Nagito, and was apparently a desire of Peromei's long ago. This may be achieved in time with work done in her lands and more exploration there, but bringing it up so it's not forgotten!

- And for other topics brought up previous was investigation into the books found during the last game excursion that were sealed, and any progress that may be made on them or not, as well as the compass put together during the Lavieti excursion. How the mods want to approach either of these is up to them--I've already shot you guys a message before about the compass, but that's up to you when you want to address that again. At this point I'm bringing them up so they're aware of them and that they were made committee topics!
